An Advanced Discussion On The SFP Transceivers

The Small Form-Factor(SFP) is a compact and hot-pluggable optical transceiver wich can be used for data communication and telecommunication applications. SFP can be defined as the interface between copper or fiber optic network cable and the network device mother board. It can support the working of the Fiber Channel, SONET, Gigabit Ethernet, various other standards for communication. The SPF has now expanded to SPF+. This has helped to achieve the data rate of 10Gbit/s and also the 8 Gigabit Fiber Channel. The Xenpac which is also known as the XFP modules is on the inside, whereas in SFP+ modules you will find that some of the circuitry is left to be implemented on the host board even.
You can find a variation in the in the SFP transceivers, and different transceivers will have different transmitters and receivers. With the help of this user can customize and configure the transceivers with a purpose of getting perfect optical reach. This can be done with single-node fiber or multi-node fiber type. In addition to this, you will be able to see that there are four categories for the SFP modules. These categories are SX, which is 850nm, LX, which is 1310nm, ZX, which is 1550nm and DWDM. These SFP modules have a copper cable interface which can easily allow the motherboard to be able to communicate through USTP (unshielded twisted-pair) network cable. Another available optical fiber cable is the CWDM and single-node bi-directional. These are 310/1490nm upstream and downstream.
 What All Can It Do
The transfer rates of the SFP transceivers can go up to 4.25 Gbit/s and the XFP which is quite similar to the SFP type can increase the amount of transfer rate and can take it up to 10 Gbit/s. MSA or the multi-source agreement gives the specification for the production of the SFP transceivers. This is done so that the users who are using equipment manufactured by different brands do not have any problem in the smooth functioning and can work without any problem.
 GBIC And SFP Transceivers
The GBIC transceivers were used before the SFP transceivers and were really big in size as compared to the SFPs. This also gave the SFPs the nickname as mini-GBIC. Even though the SFPs are small in size but they can still allow a large number of ports in comparison to the GBIC.  Some examples are 10gb-sr-sfpp. We also have another type of a transceiver, similar to the SFP and is known as the Small Form Factor (SFF) transceiver. It is similar in the terms of size but it can be attached directly to the motherboard like a pin through-hole device. Some
